Be A Volunteer
We can’t do what we do without the help of our volunteers. We have been extremely fortunate to have an active and interested membership, who are keen to participate and help out in a variety of ways. For those of you who have already volunteered – a sincere "Thank you!" For those of you considering a volunteer role – "Welcome!"
The purpose of this page is to provide you with information about current Chapter Committees and activities and to solicit your ideas and participation. Even if you only have a few hours each month, we welcome your contribution!
Getting involved means you have an opportunity to influence and contribute to the success of the Chapter. It also provides you with an opportunity to perhaps learn and practice new skills that will contribute to your own professional development. Or – to use existing skills that may not be required of you in your present working role.
Give us a little time, or a lot of time – It’s up to you!
Here are some ways you can ‘get involved’:
- Contribute an article to the Chapter Newsletter
- Be a ‘subject expert’ at a Topic by Table meeting
- Help out at special events – for example at the annual Golf Tournament
- Volunteer for ‘ad hoc’ assignments (one time only requirements)
- Be a mentor
- Join a committee
If you are interested and can offer more time, fill out our application form here.

Join a Committee
The Chapter has newly created several standing committees, for which we need volunteers. If you have an interest in any particular area, let us know! Please contact Janet Ashfield, Director of Volunteer Management at volunteer@hrpyr.org
Our committees are listed below:
Education Committee
The Education Committee is responsible for the relationship with students and local education institutions and for coordinating programs to assist HRPYR members to attain and retain the CHRP designation. This committee also liaises with college and universities to promote Human Resources and HRPYR.
The education Committee members coordinate presentations to student groups to help them understand how the Chapter and HRPAO can assist them in defining a career in Human Resources. They attend career day functions at various schools and select the students that our chapter sponsors for HRPYR membership. The Committee is also involved with developing and delivery of programs to assist HRPYR members in attaining and retaining their CHRP designation.
Mentoring Committee
The Mentoring Committee is responsible for selecting and matching mentors and mentees and coordinating the mentoring programs. The committee liaises with colleges and universities to promote the Graduating Student Mentoring Program and with HRPYR Chapter members to promote the Member Mentor Program. They organize an annual mentoring get together to ensure program participants have a solid understanding of the scope of the program and to promote networking.
Professional Development Committee
The Professional Development Committee is responsible for sourcing speakers, exhibitors, venues and vendors for meetings and training events. They are involved in the set up of the facilities for the event and gathering feedback on the effectiveness of the event and tracking trends or topics requested by members for future meetings. The committee drafts the communication for the meeting event and ensures the notice is sent in a timely manner.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee is responsible for attracting and retaining Chapter members. They greet new members at chapter meetings and introduce them to existing members to shadow at first meeting. They communicate with Non-Renewal members to get their renewal or determine reasons for non renewals and track other trends such as when members transfer to other chapters.
Marketing Committee
The Marketing Committee is responsible for ensuring that the HRPYR website content is relevant, current and correct. They also liaise with HRPAO to keep our chapter information displayed on their website accurate. The committee handles public relations and connects with local media to issue press releases and develops other methods of increasing the visibility and brand awareness of the Chapter in the HR and business Community.
Volunteers
For those who prefer to volunteer time sporadically, ad hoc volunteer opportunities are often available for special events or one time only requirements, such as:
- Nominations for executive elections
- Career day planning
- Speaking to a class at a local college or university about Human Resources
- And More!
If you are interested in volunteering and have questions about any role or committee, please feel free to contact any of the Chapter Executives for more information.
We encourage you to actively participate in any way you can. Our volunteers are valuable and appreciated. Thank you!
