Alison Staples, MBA
Director of Education
Alison Staples has seventeen years of senior Human Resources experience in the for profit industry, consulting and not for profit sectors. She currently holds the position of Associate Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation; the leading national volunteer-based organization in North America, dedicated to a vision of creating a future without breast cancer. The Foundation is supported by over 15,000 volunteers and employees.
Alison has been a mentor with the York Regional Chapter since November 2010, and has served in various capacities on several Boards over the past ten years and therefore understands the role of Boards and Governance structures. In her current position at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, she has interaction with the Foundation’s four Regional Boards and the National Board of Directors.
Alison’s responsibilities cover all aspects of human resources - planning; organizational development; change management leadership; people and operations management; volunteer development; facilities management; corporate operations and warehouse. She is also responsible for developing and implementing the human capital strategy and human capital life cycle for the Foundation.
Alison has a Masters of Business Administration, is certified as a Human Capital Strategist through the Human Capital Institute and is a Certified Predictive Index Analyst through Predictive Success.

Cathy Tadres, CHRP
Director of Finance
As General Manager of Kemflo Canada and previously Human Resources Manager for the Fabco Group of Companies (associated companies), Cathy has provided Human Resources leadership, nationally ensuring the ongoing viable operation of the companies through workforce planning and the alignment of policies and procedures while ensuring legislative compliance, H&S as well as training and development for employees nationally. This was coupled with the labour relations functions including negotiations, grievance and arbitration matters for the Union segment of the workforce.
Integration Action for Inclusion is a non profit charitable organization dedicated to advocacy for educational inclusion in the school system. As Director and Secretary, Cathy was involved in providing knowledge and support for parents and educators and to school boards to encourage and plan integration of challenged students in the main stream system.
Most recently Cathy and her husband founded the Christopher Tadres Scholarship Foundation, a charitable organization, in honour and memory of their son Christopher who recently passed away. They established and fully funded in his memory this foundation to provide students with funding for educational opportunities and will ensure the continued remembrance of their son.
In the most recent 2 years, Cathy has contributed to the HRPYR chapter as the Director of Government Affairs. In that capacity she worked to building relationships between our chapter and HRPA, Public Affairs. She represented the chapter by advocating for the profession and developing strategic alliances with our local MPPs. In this capacity we joined with other chapters lobbying at Queens’ Park. She also contributed to long-term strategic direction of the chapter participating in strategic planning sessions and monthly meetings.
Cathy graduated York University with a Business Degree; and completed the Human Resources Management Program (Honours) at Seneca College, in addition to a post graduate diploma in Corporate Communications (Honours) and a Certificate of Proficiency in Employee Benefits from Humber College. Cathy has also taught under the Human Resources Management Certificate Program at Seneca College Newnham Campus for 5 years. She is a bilingual Human Resources Executive and a people focused leader with outstanding negotiation and communication skills combined with great respect and consideration for diversity.

Caroline Yang, CHRP, CCP
Director of Professional Development
Caroline has fifteen years of progressive human resources management experience with global organizations in various industries including high-tech, life science and financial services. In her various HR business partner and total rewards roles with ATI (AMD), TD Bank, MDS Inc., Compaq and Nortel, she partnered with the senior management to ensure alignment of HR strategies and programs with the business strategy, designed and managed total rewards programs, developed and implemented international human resources policies and global mobility programs, developed and facilitated management and professional training programs and managed employee relations and major change initiatives.
Passionate about HR’s role in making a difference both as a business partner and an employee champion, Caroline is currently a consultant with MultiCultural Business Solutions and has been working on projects training managers and employees on cross cultural communication and teamwork and helping organizations creating and implementing diversity strategy and programs
Caroline holds a post-graduate certificate in Business Administration from City University of Hong Kong and the CHRP and CCP (Certified Compensation Professional by WorldatWork) designations. Caroline has multiple publications on leadership, teamwork, global HR policies and total rewards by HRPA, WorldatWork and Canadian Employee Relocation Council
Caroline believes in giving back to the community and volunteered both in her professional capacity and for the community in general. Her volunteer activities include: resource person for HRPYR’s NKE study group and member of professional development committee in 2010, presenting to internationally educated professionals on how to adapt to the Canadian work environment and contributing to TRIEC’s training program on hiring immigrants.
Caroline joined HRPA right after immigrating to Canada and have been an active member ever since. She wants to bring her knowledge and experience in various HR disciplines to help the chapter provide top quality professional development programs for the members.

Dora Clark, CHRP
Director of Mentoring
Dora has experience leading the HR functions across a variety of industry sectors including not-for-profit associations, Post-secondary education institutions, health care and retail chains. She is currently the HR Manager in professional services industry for a private law office in the GTA. She has over 15 years combined experience in management and HR with proven strengths in coaching, training, mentoring, workflow design and managing the ISO certification.Recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the York Region Chapter of HRPA, Dora holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology and her CHRP designation. She has served for several years on multiple committees for the HRPYR including Professional Development, Mentoring, and Volunteering committees, and regularly attends and supports many of the York Region volunteer events.

Francine Charette, CCP, CHRP
Director of Marketing and Relationship Management
Francine is the Director, Human Resources and Employee Relations working for Cardinal Health Canada for the past 11 years. Prior to joining Cardinal Health, she held various HR positions with major corporations in IT, distribution, and telecommunication industries.
Her experience has brought her to work with US partners by leading projects, mergers/acquisitions and adapting policies and procedures to Canadian legislation and setting HR strategies for Canada.
Also a Kaizen leader, her accomplishments include successfully leading projects in Cardinal Health Canada’s largest distribution center achieving significant savings with process reengineering and leading the team through continuous improvements.
She graduated from HEC in Montreal in business administration and obtained her Certified Compensation Professional designation. Francine is fluent in French and English.

George Kralidis, CHRP
Vice-President and Director of Membership Development
George Kralidis is an accomplished Human Resources professional with 24 years of generalist expertise gained in mid to large organizations. His experience in Human Resources spans the public and private sectors, union and non-union environments and includes retail, healthcare, multi-site and multi-province employers.
He is currently employed by Transamerica Life Canada / AEGON Capital Management in the capacity of Assistant Vice-President, Human Resources. Before his current employer, he was Director, Human Resources at the Canadian Automobile Association of Central Ontario.
He is a results-oriented, creative, outgoing, energetic, collaborative, passionate and dynamic human resources professional with a successful track record of getting things done and making a positive difference to employees and to business performance.
He has an undergraduate degree in Administrative Studies from York University and his C.H.R.P. and C.C.P. designations. He joined the Board of Directors of York Region in 2009 where he has been responsible for the Membership Development portfolio.

Janet Ashfield, CHRP, MBA
Director of Volunteer Management
Janet is a Senior HR Professional with over 20 years of progressive HR experience within the public and private sectors. She has a well developed skill set in the creation of strategic plans and has the ability to plan and think critically and strategically. Coupled with her coaching and leadership abilities gained during various leadership roles, Janet can assist the HRPYR Board to move forward strategically resulting in a successful, not for profit, volunteer organization.
Janet currently holds the position of Director, Human Resources for the City of Vaughan where she leads the HR function. Janet has negotiated several collective agreements and has handled various restructures within organizations.
In many of Janet’s previous roles, she has reported to a Board of Directors and understands the role of the Board as it relates to governance and the information that is required to assist the Board in making effective decisions to benefit the association or corporation.
For more than 5 years, Janet has been committed to the HRPYR chapter and furthering the professional development of our members by participating in the Mentoring for Graduating Students and Mentoring for Members program.
In addition, Janet has sat on the Board of Directors for Big Sister Youth Services in Hamilton for approximately 5 years.
Janet is a Certified Human Resources Professional and currently pursuing her SHRP. In addition to her HRPYR volunteer experience, she has been Mentoring with COSTI/TRIEC to new Canadians.
Janet possesses a Bachelor of Commerce, an MBA, and a Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership.

Jodi Zigelstein-Yip, CHRP
President
Jodi has been an HR practitioner for over thirteen years in a variety of progressive positions in various industries including within a consulting capacity, advertising, manufacturing, municipal, not for profit, and retail, wholesale, and distribution. She has expertise in designing strategic plans in a variety of industries, and has expertise in a variety of HR functional areas including learning and organizational development, employee engagement, compensation, policy development, and employee relations.
Jodi currently holds the position of Senior Divisional People Manager for Walmart Canada where she leads a team of HR professionals in providing best practices in HR to senior management and associates in the business support functions within the Home Office.
Over the past ten years Jodi has spent most of her time designing and facilitating training and development programs in a variety of industries. In 2008, Jodi created a program which earned the Canadian Gold Award for Training Excellence for the development of Leadership Foundations, a management curriculum from the Canadian Society for Training and Development.
Jodi has also taught courses at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Jodi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a specialty in Business, has her Human Resources Post-Diploma Certificate, holds the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, and is a Trained Facilitator with Development Dimensions International. Jodi also holds her Certificate in Adult Education and is pursuing her Certified Training Professional Certification and Senior Human Resources Professional (SHRP) designation.
Jodi has sat on the HRPYR Board since 2006 in a variety of portfolios including Director of Volunteer Management and Director of Mentoring and Education. Jodi has received a Youth Citizen Award from Yellow Brick House to recognize her efforts to raise awareness about violence against women and children in the community.

Joseph D'Sa, CHRP, SHRP
Director of Chapter Relations
As a human resources management professional over the past three decades, Joseph has global experience and expertise in a wide range of HR management functions including negotiating several collective agreements, successfully handling mergers and acquisitions and facilitating re-structuring of organizations for large corporations both within public and private sectors.
For the last eleven years, Joseph has been with the York Region District School Board in various leadership roles within human resources. Currently, as Manager, Administration, Compensation and Benefits, Joseph leads a team and is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and programs in the areas of compensation, wage and salary administration, benefits, pension, pay equity and job evaluation impacting over 12,000 employees of the Board.
He has written several articles on different management topics which are published in national daily newspapers and business magazines internationally. As a mentor and coach, Joseph has guided and directed a number of immigrants in writing resumes, researching employment opportunities and preparing them for interviews.
Joseph has a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law. Joseph is also a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and a Senior Human Resources Professional (SHRP).
Joseph is involved in and supports a range of charitable fund-raising activities and enjoys music, playing tennis, golf, soccer, and jogs when the weather permits.

Mark Bond, CHRP
Director of Government Relations
Mark has been a Human Resources professional for over 10 years with specialties in pay equity, job evaluation, compensation, and labour relations. He is currently a Human Resources Partner (Generalist) with the City of Vaughan, and is skilled at listening and respecting others’ points of view and keeping an open mind when making decisions. Mark also has the ability to build consensus which has allowed him to resolve issues and reach his goals and objectives.
Mark has an Honours B.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto and is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
This is Mark’s first time serving as a Board Member of HRPYR and is looking forward to participating in the sharing and development of knowledge, experience and ideas with other Human Resource professionals.

Shirley Marie Garcia, CHRP, RPR
Director of Marketing and Relationship Management
A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with a Master’s degree in Management (MM), Shirley has over ten years management experience and expertise in human resources, organizational development, and project management.
Shirley developed her skill and experience through progressively more challenging roles in administration, sales, and HR management within a broad range of profit and not-for-profit sectors. She has served and participated on HRPA, Accessibility Directorate of Ontario, HRSDC and Labour Program initiatives supporting successful integration of internationally educated professionals, accessibility, employment equity and racism issues.
A senior HR professional with March of Dimes Canada, one of the largest community-based rehabilitation and advocacy organization for people with physical disabilities in Canada, Shirley leads a team of HR professionals in the development and implementation of strategic HR programs and initiatives in a unionized environment.
Aside from her CHRP, Shirley also holds the Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) designation.
